Age 86, Frieda peacefully passed away on March 30, 2013, at Oliver Woods, Owosso, spending this Easter with her Heavenly Father. She was born January 7, 1927, on her father’s birthday, to Herman and Amelia (Grenke) Hauser in Riley Twp., Clinton County. She was a 1945 graduate of St. Johns High School. She is survived by her children, Joyce of Haslett, Ron (Sharon) of Midland, and Judy (Dave) Bengel of Ovid; four grandchildren, Sarah and Amy Felzke, and Tyler and Devin Bengel; sisters-in-law Ruth Hauser, Jean Hauser and Helen Ferrigan and brother-in-law, Bernard Vance; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Edward, as well as her parents and siblings, Ernest, Lillian Seeger, and Bertha Vance.
Frieda and Ed were married May 23, 1953, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Johns, and lived in DeWitt most of their lives. She was a stay-at-home mom in her early years of marriage, lovingly creating a nurturing place for her family, where she became well-known for her exceptional talents in the kitchen. Later she was employed by DeWitt Public Schools for 21 years.
Frieda was a fighter. A breast cancer survivor since 1995, she battled multiple health issues in her later years, but had the utmost confidence in all her doctors, and many she regarded as friends. Speaking of friendship, there were no strangers in Frieda’s world. She was eager to chat with everyone she met, and made many friends throughout her life, especially so during her last seven years at Marsh Pointe in Haslett , where she was particularly fond of playing Pinochle. A decline in health created the need for assisted living, and although she was only at Oliver Woods for two weeks, the staff there, as well as Great Lakes Home Care and Hospice, gave her loving care and attention for which her family is grateful. Friends and relatives may visit the family at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home in DeWitt on Wednesday, April 3, from 2-4 and 6-8. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 4, at Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Avenue, Lansing, with visitation one hour prior at the church. Pastor Paul J. Lindloff will officiate; interment in Hurd Cemetery, DeWitt, and a luncheon at the church will follow. Those desiring may make contributions to the church or the American Cancer Society in memory of Frieda Felzke. Memories may be shared with the family at www.grdewitt.com
