Geraldine Doris Krohn

Geri was born on June 9, 1934, in Temple, Texas, to Lester and Florence Winnett. She was raised there alongside her sister, Jessie Merle. In 1953, she married John Krohn, and together they returned to his native Michigan, where Geri would make her home for the rest of her life. John affectionately called her his "Yellow Rose of Texas."

Family was at the heart of Geri's life, and she took great pride in creating a warm, welcoming, and immaculately kept home. She and John raised their four children— Debbie, Mike, Cindi, and John—in Lansing and DeWitt. Geri enjoyed her artwork, especially painting, and her family and friends loved her incredible baking. The grandchildren fondly remember spending time with Geri, especially their trips to the mall to shop, outings to the movies, and meals shared at their favorite restaurants.

Above all, Geri's life was defined by her deep Christian faith. Her spiritual journey led her through Nazarene, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Bible churches before she embraced the Catholic faith later in life. Wherever she worshiped, she devoted herself to serving others. She played a key role in establishing the Advent House ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lansing and helped start the food pantry at Redeemer United Methodist Church in DeWitt. Her love of service also led her to become a docent at the Michigan History Center in Lansing.

It was there that she met Richard Schultz, who would become her beloved husband in 1997. Together, Geri and Dick shared a love of travel, enjoying a Hawaiian cruise, a trip to Tahiti, winters in Florida and Georgia, visits to California to see her sister Jessie, and many other memorable adventures.

Geri spent the last year and a half of her life in the loving care of the staff at Grace Haven Assisted Living Center in St. Johns, with her daughter Cindi faithfully by her side. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, and dear friend whose kindness, faith, and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Geri was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Lester Winnett; her husband, John Samuel Krohn; her son, John Paul Krohn; and her son-in-law, Scott Wilkie.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Richard Schultz; her daughter, Deborah O'Brien; her son, Michael (Melanie) Krohn; her daughter, Cynthia Wilkie; her sister, Jessie Freeman; and her sister-in-law, Lyn Scott. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Holly (Tim), Kerri (Tom), Joshua (Cortnie), Chelsea, Nathan (Katlyn), Melissa (Justin), John (Kayla), and Michaela; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren: Jack, Maxwell, Izaak, Adrianna, Ashlyn, Kennedy, Lennox, Lacey, Scotty, John, Eleanor, Nicholas, and Judith.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27, at 1:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home in DeWitt, with burial to follow at DeWitt City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Haven Assisted Living Center or the Alzheimer's Association.
