Greg married Barbara Ann VanSickle on June 20th, 1969; a union that lasted 56 years. Together, they raised two children, Kevin and Maggie in Lansing, DeWitt, and St. John's. Their annual vacations to Leisure Lake made for wonderful lifetime memories. Greg attended Eastern High School, graduated in 1966, and was co-captain of his high school football team; he played tight end and linebacker, and had the chance to play college football, but decided to pursue his dream of becoming a special machine designer. He completed an apprenticeship at Lansing Community College. He worked at Demmer Corporation in Lansing for 40 years as a Mechanical Design Engineer. Greg served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserves for nine years; he received an Honorable Discharge on March 31st, 1975.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dana; and brothers, Charles and Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Kevin Zimmerman (Gretchen), Maggie Burk (Chip); grandchildren, Alyssa Zimmerman, Gavin Burk, and Delaney Burk, tyler Kobisky, Amanda Baranowski, and a wonderful group of supportive and loving sisters-in-laws and their husbands - Pat and Rod Paulino, Deborah Frost, Shirley and Don Kowalk, and many wonderful and supportive friends and neighbors.
Greg was a kind, generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother-in-law. His favorite activities later in life were bowling, golfing with his son and grandson, stamp and coin collecting, and going to MSU football and basketball games. Three words that sum up Greg's Life: Loving, Dedicated and Compassionate.
