Ivan "Ike" Volkers, age 79, of DeWitt, MI passed away on Feb.10, 2021 at Freedom Village Memory Care in Holland, MI. Ike was a graduate of HCHS. After graduating from Ferris State University with a degree in Environmental Health, Ike worked for the Wayne County Health Department for three years; then retired from the Michigan Department of Public Health after twenty-three years of service. Ike then worked as a custom home builder with his son, Rick, at Volkers Builders. His hobbies included fishing on Lake Michigan and Naples Bay, and elk hunting in Colorado.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Isla; children, Rick (Leigh) Volkers of DeWitt, Stephanie (Jim) McCarthy of Denver / DeWitt; four grandchildren, Josh (Morgan) McCarthy, Adam McCarthy, Gabe (Sarah) Eyde, Olivia (Bryan) McCabe; great-grandchild, Parker McCarthy; siblings, Elaine Dorn, and Janice Voss.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Grace Volkers; brothers, Jason, Harvey, Gordon; and sisters, Lois and Vivian.
Private services will be held with Pastor Ken Beiber officiating. Ike will be interred at Graafschap Cemetery in Holland, MI. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00pm on Tuesday, February 16 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel.
