

Born on May 21, 1933, Jerry graduated from Everett High School in Lansing as part of the Class of 1952. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with distinction from 1952 until 1971. During his military career, Jerry rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and was honorably discharged after being wounded in Vietnam. He remained a proud lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
In his youth, Jerry was an accomplished athlete who excelled in football, track, and baseball. His passion for sports reflected his energetic spirit and dedication.
Jerry was known for his generous heart and unwavering commitment to helping others. He volunteered regularly at soup kitchens and senior centers, always ready to lend a hand wherever he was needed. He also found great joy in traveling and sharing meals with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul O'Connell and Martha Jack; his sisters Jackie VanBlaricom and Connie McKee; and his first wife, Eileen O'Connell.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Candace O'Connell; daughters Colleen Martin, Cathie Bodeker, Trudi Monk, and Melody Monk; son Bradley Monk and his wife Marilyn; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Jerry’s life was marked by service, kindness, and a deep love for those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
