John “Jack” Dunkel, 69, of East Lansing passed away unexpectedly at his home in Iron River on June 15, 2022. Jack was born March 16, 1953 in Lansing, MI, son of the late William and Ann (Winters) Dunkel.
Following high school, Jack went to work in a shipyard in NewPort News, VA. He eventually came back to Michigan and took a job with General Motors where he held several positions over his 32 year career, retiring in 2007. He earned the nickname of Jack at a young age as he was a talented “jack of all trades”. He enjoyed tinkering and was a skilled mechanic who could fix just about anything. Jack enjoyed hunting, spending time up north and feeding and watching the animals. Most of all, he loved spending time with family.
Jack is survived by a son, Chad Dunkel of LaSalle, MI; a grandson, Caden; two brothers, Jeff (Chris) Dunkel of DeWitt, MI and Jerry Dunkel of Fellsmere, FL; a sister, Beverly Dunkel of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister-in-law, Kathy Dunkel of Mason, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 1st at 1:00 pm. The chapel will be open at 12:00 pm for Dad's friends and family to arrive at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 205 E. Washington St., Dewitt, MI, 48820.
