JOSHUA THOMAS MILLER, Tollhouse, CA, Age 35, passed away on December 25, 2016. Josh was born in Lansing, MI on January 25, 1981 to Elizabeth A. (Crowl) and Thomas R. Miller. He was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and nephew. Josh graduated from Haslett High School in 1999 and joined the United States Marine Corps in 2000. After serving tours of duty overseas in both Afghanistan and Iraq, Josh was Honorably Discharged in 2004, and attended the University of California-Berkeley. Josh loved being outdoors in the wilderness, and used it as a way to help him cope with the memories of war. Josh deeply loved his son, who was the light of his life, and he looked forward to every moment he had with him. He was the guiding light and protector of his siblings, even if he liked to pull the occasional “older brother” tricks on them. Josh was a shining example of the man his parents had hoped to raise, and the achievements he accomplished in life make them extremely proud. Much like his father, Josh enjoyed tinkering in his shop on projects ranging from rough carpentry to sensitive electronics. He was well versed in philosophy, physics, mathematics and science, all leading to his dedication to solve world issues such as the contamination of the soil after the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Unfortunately, he was not able to see this project through before his death. Recently, his memories of war became too much to bear, and resulted in him taking his own life while overseeing the natural beauty of the Sierra National Forest. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Surviving are his son Vincent Scott Miller of Sacramento, CA, his parents Elizabeth A. and Thomas R. Miller, his siblings Jenny Miller of Richmond, VA, Sarah (Tommy Deshais) Roush of Eaton Rapids, Amanda (Brent) Hissong of Haslett, Steven (Megan) Miller of Haslett, and Michael Miller of Houston, TX. Also surviving are 7 nieces and nephews, cousins, special friends and neighbors. He served his country, and made a positive and lasting impact on every person he met. He will be missed greatly by all of those that knew him. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 8th at 1:25 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Dewitt with Pastor Beth Grimshaw of Leslie Congregational United Church of Christ. Visitation is on Saturday from 5-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the GoFundMe account for his son, Vincent https://www.gofundme.com/memorial-fund-ptsd-vetjosh-miller.
