Julia Laycock passed away January 10, 2012 at the age of 96. Although we mourn her passing, we mostly celebrate her life. Born in Mexico, the daughter of migrant workers, she achieved the American dream through hard work, family and love. With little formal education (she left school in the sixth grade to help support her brothers and sisters), she managed to purchase her own home, become a naturalized American citizen, achieve financial security and raise two successful sons. She practiced women’s liberation before there was women’s liberation. She was a strong, independent, opinionated, stubborn woman who lived alone in her house until age 95. She had a good life. She is survived by sons, David (Kim) Laycock, Michael (Jane) Laycock; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Otilia Beebee, San Juanita Smith and Maria Elena Villarreal; sister-in-law Romana Medina and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Gregorio and Hilaria Medina; brothers Miguel and Natividad Medina and her sisters Pauline Diaz, Refugia Petrick, Dionicia Rositas and Hilaria Medina. A Memorial service will be held at Noon on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, Michigan with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 11:00am to noon. The family would like to thank you for your prayers and support during this time. Contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, PO Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909, Meals on Wheels, 5303 S. Cedar St., Lansing, MI 48911 or Hazel Findlay Country Manor, 1101 S.
