

Marion “Sandy” Childress, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Burcham Hills Assisted Living Center in East Lansing. Marion was born in Chicago, Illinois to Stanley Beem Zaring and Marion Dixon Zaring.
In 1957, Marion received a Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado College where she played collegiate field hockey and was president of her Alpha Phi Chapter. Marion joined the Navy and served briefly at the Pentagon, ending career upon marriage. She also worked for over a decade at Ingham Medical Center as a Billing Specialist.
Marion is recently predeceased by her husband of 52 years, William Clay Childress Sr., age 80, who passed December 8th of this year. She is survived by 3 sons, George (Lori Ann), Bill Jr. (Dawn) and Douglas (Kulli) and 6 devoted grandchildren. Marion was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend.
Marion was an active member of the Catholic Community of St. Jude, a former Cub Scout leader, and leader of the Campfire Girls’ Blue Birds.
She enjoyed her Bible Study group, travel, and spending time with family.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge Street, DeWitt. Mass will be celebrated at 6:00 PM, immediately following visitation. Marion’s remains will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Battle Creek, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 West Grand River Avenue, Lansing, MI 48906.
