Generous, loving, mild-mannered, caring, and kindness all describe Marjorie Carolyn Bettis Taylor. Carol was a compassionate nurse, and peacemaker to all those around her. Carol continually demonstrated unconditional love, as Jesus Christ taught His disciples to do, with all she encountered.
Carol was born in Monroe, Michigan to Marjorie Mabel Lanphere Bettis and Norris Ezekiel Zebulon Bettis June 26, 1930.
When Carol was ten years old and her sister Barbara was six years old, their father left the family and moved out of state. Their mom raised them in Monroe and taught them a great work ethic. As the oldest of two girls, Carol laughed as her younger sister, Barbara would play jokes at home and in public. She graduated from Monroe High School and participated in The Order of the Rainbow. She attended church at the Monroe St. Paul’s Methodist Church.
Carol attended RN Nursing school at Toledo Hospital and worked in the Dearborn Hospital.
Carol met Gregory Rutka Taylor through friends and were married January 26, 1951, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Monroe, Michigan. They lived in Dearborn, Port Huron, and later moved to Battle Creek when Greg’s job took them there.
Carol worked as a nurse in the Battle Creek and Seventh Day Adventist Health Systems and retired in 1992. Carol was a member of the SDA Tabernacle in Battle Creek. Her husband, Greg, died in 1976, and eventually Carol shared a log home on Kirby Road for many years with Nancy Steely, a close family friend. Many memories were made with Nancy as they chaperoned the Battle Creek Academy band on tours in Europe. They spent many memorable summers at Nancy’s family cabin in Ely, Minnesota.
Carol loved to cook and always provided delicious traditional meals during holidays. She enjoyed reading. cross-stitching, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her three children, Jeffrey H. Taylor “Jeff”, Judith “Judy” (Gerry) Hanson, and Patricia “Patti” (Kevin) Gillett; five grandchildren, Aaron (Sabine) Hanson, Kristin Robinson, Jennifer (Gage) Clark, Ashleigh Perkins, and Brian Gillett; eight great grandchildren, William, Connor, Paisleigh, Michael, Paxton, Slater, Fiona, and Lukas.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory R. Taylor and her sister, Barbara J. Pope, and brother-in-law H. Dean Pope.
