

Mary Jean (LaHaye) Locher of DeWitt, MI was born November 15, 1927 to William and Lillian (Dienberg) LaHaye in Stevens Point, WI and passed away August 20, 2014. Mary’s fun and compassionate spirit was a delight to all who knew her. She lived her life according to Jesus’ teachings, caring for others with unwavering faith and unyielding love for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.
Mary lived in Roscommon, MI, Utica, MI and Cape Coral, FL. She enjoyed music, especially playing the organ and singing in the church choir. She was a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, volunteered at Saint Vincent DePaul, transported homebound parishioners to and from Mass, and loved calling the numbers at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church weekly Bingo.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of of 63 years, John L. Locher; and her brothers, James, William, and Robert LaHaye. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Rosemary Locher, John W. Locher, Gerald Locher, James (Joan) Locher, Diane Locher, Jeanette Locher, Michele (David) Goodyear, and Kimberly Bindschatel; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, John (Donna) LaHaye. Her family wishes to thank the caregivers at Bickford Assisted Living and Rosewood Adult Foster Care.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd. in East Lansing, with Rev. James Lothamer presiding. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington in DeWitt, and one hour prior to mass at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2111University Park Drive, Suite 200, Okemos, MI 48864, or to the Hospice of their choice, in memory of Mary Locher. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel.
There will be a short memorial service at Walsh Funeral Home, 143 Lake St., Roscommon, Michigan, on Tuesday, August 26, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral procession to Gerrish Cemetery, Higgins Lake. Rev. Lawrence Sergott, pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church in Roscommon, will preside at the graveside service.
