Nora Margaret Shapiro

August 27, 1934October 16, 2020

Nora was born on August 27, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Fredrick Edward Ahrens and Lillian Monica (Sullivan) Ahrens. She took her last call at 1:45 AM on Friday, October 16th, 2020 with her family at her side. Nora is preceded in her death by her parents, her husband Alex Shapiro, her wonderful friend Jerry and her loving son Charles Andrew Hendricks. Nora is survived by her children Diane (Scott) Hendricks, Marianne (Greg) George, Joanne (Herb) Hendricks, seven grandchildren, Molly, Ariel, Taylor, Lucas, Lilly, Charles and Grace, and three great-grandchildren, her adoring Brothers Fredrick (Noreen), and Robert (Fran) and many nieces and nephews. She had a close bond with her niece Carol. She will forever be remembered by many friends and family members.

Nora was a class act and always the life of the party. She loved being with family and friends. She lived life to the fullest and knew how to paint the town red. One of Nora’s favorite past times was horse racing; many of her friends will remember taking pictures in the winner’s circle. She spent many years of her life in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She knew all of the best tiki bars and welcomed company with open arms. She loved her CC Manhattans, nicotine lozenges, QVC, HSN and Lifetime Movie Network. She was always there to give the best advice, help with outfit selections and knew the best shades of lipstick. She’d tell you like it is and had the best one liners. She was a wonderful cook and had a special talent in the kitchen. She enjoyed clothes shopping, especially online. The last few years were very hard on her, but she never complained. She was able to spend quality time with her grandchildren: watching their basketball games, going to the cottage, attending Lilly’s white coat ceremony, and many more family celebrations. She loved to see and be seen and enjoyed sitting at Ariel’s bar for happy hour. She will be greatly missed and remembered forever.

A private funeral service will be held and Nora will be laid to rest next to her husband in Livonia. A celebration of life will be held in the future.

So many great memories of Nora. She was something alright. When her and Alex would go away I would go stay with Joanne but my biggest memory was one night Joanne and I wanted g th o stay out all night and when about 2 am came we realized there was nothing to do but she said she was staying at my house and I at hers so we snuck in to the garage at her house got lawn chairs and slept out by the pool. Well until in the morning when we were busted by Nora turning the pool pump on. So many antics Joanne and I pulled and she never told my Mom. I just adored her. Now she is back with Alex and her son Charlie. May they all Rest In Peace and have a blast together while waiting for the rest. I know there is a lot of laughing going on in Heaven!!!!
