Born in Lansing Michigan on February 28, 1943 to Sue and Roger Morse, Phil attended Eastern HS and graduated from Grand Ledge HS. He served as a Deputy Sheriff in Ingham County, MI, and then as a Sergeant in the 529th Military Police Company in Heidelberg Germany. Throughout Europe he proudly carried and displayed the American flag in the United States Army Honor Guard. Phil received his Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and his Juris Doctor degree from University of Notre Dame Law School. He worked as an appellate attorney for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore and Washington, DC, and as an Assistant United States Attorney in Grand Rapids for the Federal Western District of Michigan. He later moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked in private practice for 38 years before retiring and moving with his faithful dog Maggie to Sebastopol to be with his 5 beloved children and grandchildren.
Phillip is pre-deceased by his parents, sister Margaret Goodknecht, brother William Morse, nephew David Kosier and nieces Nicole Douglas and Amanda Goodknecht. He is survived by his sons Erik and Patrick (Deidre) and grandchildren Sage, Layla, and Serena, sister Sondra (Robert) Stapelman, nieces Michelle, Angela, Sherry, and Terri, and nephews Don, John, Joe, Brent, Craig, and Matthew, as well as several great-nieces and nephews. Services to be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home in Dewitt, MI, on July 9th, 2022 at Noon, with visitation at 11:00 am.
