Phyllis was born in Lebanon Township, Michigan on September 3, 1931. She graduated with Honors from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Michigan, class of 1949. She married Frank John Winter on April 10, 1953.
Phyllis loved all kinds of music and participated as a choir and ensemble member. She was choir director at First Baptist Church of St. Johns, Dewitt Community Church, and Dewitt Methodist Church. Phyllis also directed the hundred voice choir for the Dewitt Bicentennial, as well as Dewitt Reflections, Riverside Singers, and was Music Director at Northpointe Community Church. Phyllis also loved spending summers at the family cottage in Lake City, and was a passionate MSU football and basketball fan, and loved playing Scrabble.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Lorna (Charles) Williamson, Janet (John) Everett, Alison (Eric) Lerg, James (Amber) Winter; 13 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great granddaughters. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Thomas Winter; sister-in-law Joanna Fink; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Frank; sister Joyce (Donald) Rennells; sister-in-law Mary (Ed) West; brother-in-law William (Cindy) Winter; and Elizabeth (Charles) MacIntosh.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:30 p.m. with a luncheon to follow at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington St. DeWitt, MI 48820.
