Age 77, died April 2, 2011, born September 18, 1933, in Detroit, MI. He is survived by his wife, Jean of 57 years; daughters, Tina (Ken) Ashbrook, Debra Schmid, Michelle Schmid, Patricia Stephens; son, Michael Schmid; 8 grand children; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Eugene (Jeanne) Schmid; sister, Sister Catherine Henry Schmid; dear friends, Linda Schadler and Robin Marbrito. Robert was a resident of Benton Harbor and an educator for 32 years at Lake Michigan Catholic Schools. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Robert and Jean retired to Baldwin, where he loved to fish and watched the birds and squirrels. They would winter in South Carolina and walk the beaches collecting shells. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 7, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge St., DeWitt, MI with Military honors to follow. Interment will be Friday April 8, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at Davis Cemetery, Ray, Michigan. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m with a Knights of Columbus service to follow. There will be a Memorial Mass held Monday April 11, 2011, Noon, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, Michigan. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Lake Michigan Catholic School Fund, 915 Pleasant St., St. Joseph, Michigan 49085 in memory of Robert.
