RosaLinda "Rosa" Salas

DeWitt, Michigan

Rosa Salas passed away suddenly on December 5, 2014 at the age of 36. She endured a long battle with chronic pain, evil people, and bureaucratic apathy. Rosa was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Rosa was born a star but no stage was ever big enough to contain her. No one told Rosa what to do and we loved her for it and through it. Rosa was a singer, a social worker, a fighter, for herself and others. At her best she was simply unstoppable, and this is how we will remember her. Rosa believed in God, justice, Xicanismo and love. The world was not too much for Rosa Salas, but she was too much for this world. She graduated from James Madison College, Michigan State University. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Nora Gray and Herlinda and Arturo Salas. Surviving to cherish her memory are her parents, John and Pamela Scherer; three brothers, Matthew (Rachel) Salas, Sean Scherer and James (Adrienne Doty) Scherer; sister, Nora (Tim Russ) Salas; nieces and nephews, Jarred, Rheanna, Matthew, Nicholas, Lucia, James and Landon; and her beloved dog, Missy Mae Dorgan. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends from 6:00~8:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2014 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI. A private interment will take place at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to RAINN-Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, 1220 L Street NW, Suite 505, Washington DC 20005, in memory of Rosa.
