Shirley grew up on a farm surrounded by animals and cherished her childhood companion, a horse named "Hip." She attended a one-room schoolhouse near her home before pursuing higher education at Western Michigan University, where she graduated in 1957 with a degree in Secretarial Studies.
Shirley began her career at the Calhoun County Courthouse, where she met the love of her life, Dorian Carroll. The two were married on October 4, 1958, and shared 63 wonderful years together until Dorian’s passing. Shirley’s greatest joy was raising their four children and witnessing them build successful lives and families of their own.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Shirley found happiness in family gatherings and cherished her winters spent with Dorian in Bradenton, Florida. She was a long-time member of DeWitt Redeemer United Methodist Church and will be remembered for her warmth and dedication to her loved ones.
Shirley is survived by her children: Kay Carroll of Okemos; Gene (Wendy) Carroll of Clarkston; Karen Lockwood of Williamston; and Dean Carroll of Wilmington, NC.
