Born in April 1946, in Lansing Michigan to Vernon and Edith Spinner (Waterman), Stephen Spinner graduated from Eastern High School and later joined the U.S. Army in 1965 where he was sent to Vietnam.
Stephen was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting in Michigan, and also visited Canada many times throughout his life with both his friends and his sons to fish for walleye and pike. He fished small lakes in Michigan for bass and panfish, as well as fished the Great Lakes for salmon. He was known for fishing in any weather at all hours, regardless of temperature or storms. One of his last fishing trips was to Alaska with his sister Patricia Carew.
Stephen leaves behind his oldest son Stephen Spinner and several grandchildren Regan, Avery, Sara, Kyle and Makayla Spinner. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Scott Spinner, who passed away in September 2023.
His family would like to give special recognition to his sister, Patricia Carew, and cousin Mary-Louise Farrand, for their patience and care during the last several years of Stephen’s life. They both helped Stephen whenever he called, and sacrificed significant time to enhance the quality of his life.
There will be a memorial service held on Tuesday September 30, 2025 from 1 PM to 4 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, located at 205 E. Washington Street in DeWitt. Military honors will take place at 2:30 PM.
