Steve was born on July 9, 1957, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to Ann and Kyle Grider. He graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School and later attended Wayne State University.
In 1986, Steve married the love of his life, Cindy Grider, and together they built a family full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; his children, Pierson (Sarah) Grider and Elise Grider; and his beloved grandchildren, Conrad and Landon. He is also survived by his siblings, Duane (Ellen) Grider and Sharon Grider (Jeff Millar); his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Chris and Norm, Karen and Peter; as well as many chosen brothers and sisters including Peggy, Bob and Kim, Sherry and Jay, Larry and Margo.
Steve dedicated much of his career to helping others, working in the Oncology Department at Ingham Regional Medical Center and Cedar Creek in St. Johns, Michigan, where he focused on cancer treatment and patient care. His work touched many lives and reflected his compassion for others.
Outside of work, Steve embraced life with curiosity and joy. He loved a good game of euchre, brewing his own beer, tending to his garden, and strumming on the guitar he proudly taught himself to play. He found community and laughter in hosting bonfires along the Looking Glass River and devoted countless hours as both a soccer dad and a Boy Scout dad. But the role that brought him the greatest happiness was being “Papa.” Nothing lit him up more than time with his grandchildren—building cardboard forts, splashing in the pool, reading books together, or playing in the park. Those simple, joy-filled moments were his greatest treasures, and his grandchildren were truly the light of his life.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held 12PM ET, Monday, September 15, 2025 at the Irish Pub, 1910 W Saginaw St, Lansing, MI 48915.
Dress will be casual, just as Steve would have wanted, and there will be an opportunity for friends and family to share memories and stories.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to their favorite charity or cause.
Steve will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
