

Thomas J. "Tom" Kurkowski, affectionately known as "Pup," of Dewitt, MI, passed away on January 14, 2025, in Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 95. Born on December 29, 1929, to Michael and Jennie (Garska) Kurkowski, Tom’s life was a testament to dedication, family, and faith.
In 1951, Tom married Adeline "Joan," whom he lovingly referred to as "my bride" throughout their 59 years of marriage until her passing. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of his life.
Tom graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit and went on to earn a degree from Northwestern University. He served with distinction as a member of the Ferndale Police Department from 1957 to 1968 before working at and ultimately retiring from the State of Michigan. A man of deep faith, Tom was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Dewitt and the Knights of Columbus.
An avid outdoorsman, Tom achieved an extraordinary milestone by successfully hunting deer for 79 consecutive years—a reflection of his perseverance and passion for nature.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and all ten of his siblings. He leaves behind his children Susan (Dale) Mahaffy, Thomas M. (Christine) Kurkowski, James (Stacey) Kurkowski, Gail Gillengerten, and John (Amy) Kurkowski; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Tom’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and devotion to his family and community. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
A visitation for Thomas will be held Sunday, January 19, 2025 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 20, 2025 at 11am at St. Jude Catholic Church, 801 N Bridge St, DeWitt, MI 48820 with an hour prior visitation starting at 10am, with a luncheon to follow the service. A graveside service will occur on Wednesday January 22nd at 10am the City of Dewitt Cemetery across the street from St. Jude Catholic Church.
