Thomas William Walter, age 78 a lifelong resident of DeWitt passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at his home. He was born on November 26, 1942 in Lansing, MI the son of William and Ervadene (Seaman) Walter. Thomas graduated from DeWitt High School with the Class of 1961.
Thomas retired from the Oldsmobile Plant 2 after 35 plus years working for GM. He was a longtime member of the DeWitt Knights of Columbus. Thomas enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling and all up north activities. He loved to travel out west, up north and spending many summers on Drummond Island. Thomas was an avid DeWitt sports fan and enjoyed being a member of ‘The Old Man Pit Crew’. Family was nearest and dearest to his heart and he will forever be remembered as a Family Man.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Kathleen Walter; 4 children, Holly (Keith) Shooltz, Robert (Kristine) Walter, Mary (Matt) Pryer and Thomas (Jami) Walter; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Phillip Walter; lifelong friends, Brent Newman, Gary Crosby, Ron Fox, Gary Hanson, Brian Tingay and Sam Barnett. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he treated as his own and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jane Putney and his great-granddaughter, Evelyn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish in Lansing with visitation one hour prior to Mass at the Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Thomas’ honor may be made to Sparrow Hospice. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Sparrow Clinton Infusion Center for their kindness and care.
