

Anabel Schexnayder Torres, 90, a resident of Donaldsonville, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, in Baton Rouge at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed creative hobbies such as sewing and crocheting. A much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 65 years, Herman "Tip" Torres; daughters, Annabel Wood and husband James, Shirley Usey and husband Cedric, and Karen Hernandez and husband Tracy; and son, Herman "Tippy" Torres Jr. and wife Michelle. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Marie Louisa "Lou" Manina; and a brother, Raymond Schexnayder. Anabel was preceded in death by her parents, Michel and Anabel Bertaut Schexnayder; husband, John Newitt; infant son, Lloyd John Torres; and brothers, Michel "Francis" Schexnayder Jr., Edgar Schexnayder and Roland Schexnayder. The family wishes to thank the staff of Diversified Health Services, the staff of The Carpenter House and all the health-care professionals who have assisted Anabel throughout the years. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville on Friday, Jan. 7, from 8 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow in the church mausoleum.
