Born on April, 19, 1948, in Brickeyes, Arkansas. Cliff proudly served his country in the United State Army and was honorably discharged in 1970 after serving in the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he moved to Donaldsonville, where he began working in the local chemical plants. It was there that he met his future wife, Jodie Acosta. Cliff retired from Agrico in 2007 after a long and dedicated career.
Cliff had a lifelong love of drag racing, a passion that began on the streets in Arkansas with his brother Richard. Over the years, he continued racing alongside his son Allen, with his granddaughter Alexis following in his footsteps. His proudest moments included watching and helping his son and granddaughter race, sharing many heartfelt conversations with his granddaughter Taylor, and teaching his grandsons how to drive---patiently passing along not only skill, but confidence and care behind the wheel. Above all, Cliff adored his great-granddaughter Lyllah, who, in his eyes, could do no wrong.
Cliff is survived by his devoted wife, Jodie; his son Allen (and his wife Heather); granddaughters, Taylor (and her husband Josh, and their daughters Lyllah and Norah); Alexis (and her husband Clayton and their son Luke); grandsons Austin, Riley and Christopher; his nephew Ken Sherman (and his wife Angie); and his sister-in-law Shirley Sherman. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Elsie Sherman; brothers Richard, Allen, John and Nathaniel; sister Vicky; parents-in-law Lloyd, Sr. and Josie Acosta; Nanny Faye Montero; sisters-in-law Kathy Acosta and Rachael Acosta, and nephew Jude Jarreau.
Cliff will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His passion for family and racing, his strength, and his devotion will remain a lasting inspiration to all who knew him.
A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Donaldsonville, by Father Matt Dupre. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in Cliff’s memory.
