

Born on April 21, 1964, Joey was raised in White Castle, Louisiana, where he attended Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic School. He went on to attend Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, graduating with the class of 1982, and later attended Nicholls State University.
Joey served his community as an Emergency Medical Technician and member of the White Castle Volunteer Fire Department and was awarded Volunteer of the Year by the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the 2010 – 2011 school year. He went on to spend many years employed with Turner Industries in Baton Rouge. In his later years, following a stroke, Joey lived in Thibodaux, Louisiana with his mother, before relocating to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he spent his remaining time.
Joey was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Alex “Joe” Callegan Sr.; his mother, Mildred Templet Callegan; and his brother, Thomas Pierre “Tommy” Callegan.
He is survived by his daughter, Claire Callegan and her sister Mary Elizabeth Cavalier Johnson and her husband, Collin Johnson; his brother, Daniel Paul “Danny” Callegan and his sister-in-law Michelle Casteigne Callegan; his niece, Haley Nicole Callegan; and his godson, Nicholas Paul Callegan.
Joey will be remembered as a loving and caring brother and father and will be dearly missed by all those who loved him and by all whose lives he touched.
A visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Paincourtville, LA, on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 9AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Interment to follow in the church mausoleum.
