

Lawrence Emile “Bud” Bergeron, Jr. passed away on February 24, 2025, leaving behind to cherish his memory his loving wife and best friend of 67 years – Joyce Grisaffe Bergeron. He is also survived by four children: Henry A. Bergeron (Louise), Barry J. Bergeron (Anne), Lawrence E. Bergeron, III (Donna), and Mary Bergeron Cronin (Dale); seven grandchildren: Adriane Faulkner (Brandon), Alison Bergeron (Darren Nelson), Mary Catherine Boudreaux (Taylor), Lauren Viguerie (James), Alexander Bergeron, Christopher Cronin, and Camille Cronin; and four great-grandchildren: Addyson Faulkner, Hunter Faulkner, Lillian Viguerie, and Jack Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lawrence Emile Bergeron and Thelma “Tute” Dupre’ Bergeron, and his siblings: Donald Joseph Bergeron and Julia Marie Bergeron McGuire. Bud grew up in Belle Rose, Louisiana and worked with his grandfather starting at the age of ten, milking cows and feeding chickens before and after school. He also worked in his family’s grocery store in Donaldsonville. Bud graduated from Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, which is now Ascension Catholic. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University, specializing in Science & Math Education. He completed a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision, as well as a Plus 30 certificate from LSU.
Bud completed ROTC at LSU and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He began his military career by completing the Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon release from active duty, Bud joined the Louisiana National Guard as Platoon Leader for the 770th Signal Company in Donaldsonville. Due to promotions, Bud then completed the Signal Officer Basic Course and the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses. He also completed the Command and General Staff College. Bud’s last assignment was as Battalion Commander of the 769th Engineer Battalion in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1982.
His civilian career began with the Assumption Parish School Board in Napoleonville where he taught Chemistry and Physics at Assumption High School before becoming Assistant Principal. Upon retirement from education, Bud worked as office manager for Richard Oil Company in Donaldsonville for four years. In 1984, Bud ran for and was elected Assumption Parish Clerk of Court and was re-elected four consecutive unopposed terms. Bud served as president of the Louisiana Clerk of Court Association and served on many committees. He was instrumental in the formation and growth of the Clerk of Court Risk Management Agency. Bud was active with St. Jules Catholic Church, serving as President of the Parish Council, chair of the Auction Committee for the Allons Manger, and an usher as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bud loved cooking, working in his vegetable garden and giving his family and friends its bounty. More than anything, he cherished being involved with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed cheering on the LSU Tigers in every sport, especially football.
Visitation will be at St. Jules Catholic Church in Belle Rose on Saturday, March 1, 2025, starting at 8:30 am with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in the church mausoleum. Father Matt Dupre will be officiating. Pallbearers: Alexander Bergeron, Christopher Cronin, Thomas McGuire, Michael Bergeron, Sammy Bergeron, Brandon Faulkner, James Viguerie, and Marvin Robinson. Honorary Pallbearers: Donald Bergeron, Ricky Bergeron, Taylor Boudreaux, Anthony Grisaffe, Jr., Anthony Grisaffe, Sr., Rogers McGuire, and Darren Nelson.
The family would like to thank all of Bud’s medical providers, Amedisys Hospice, and especially his caregivers: Catherine Smith, Losonna Truxillo and Carolyn Landry, who helped bring him, and them, comfort at the end.
