Lloyd “Peanut” Laurent, 94, a native of White Castle, Louisiana and resident of St. James died peacefully at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Reserve, Louisiana on September 10, 2025. Thank you for your service, a phrase reserved for individuals who served their country. In Peanut’s case this is true, but his service went far beyond. Not only did he serve his country in the Navy during the Korean War, but he also served his community as Fire Chief for 29 years, as an usher and eucharistic minister at St. James Catholic Church. He also served his community by cooking jambalaya for many community events especially for the Wildcat Football and Baseball Teams. He was a committed Manresa retreatant for many years and prayed ceaselessly for family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Amy Hymel Laurent. His parents Noe’ and Emilie Haydel Laurent; his granddaughter, Baby Rou; his siblings, Milton Laurent, Noe’ Laurent, Jr, Herbin Laurent, Ralph Laurent, Stephen Laurent, Clifton Laurent, Elma Laurent Folse, Doris Laurent Sanchez, and Enola Laurent Rivet.
He is survived by his children Andrea Folse (Nathan), Anthony Laurent (Lisa), Bonnie Zeringue, and Jenifer Rougee (Shane). His grandchildren – Nathan Folse Jr., Emily Hutchinson, Boyd Laurent, Ryan Laurent, Nick Danos, Victoria Nassar, Troy Zeringue Jr., Colin Rougee, and Casey Crutchfield. He was blessed with 14 great grandchildren.
Peanut loved deer hunting, dove hunting, salt water fishing with his camp buddies, sac-a-lait fishing, and cooking for everyone especially for the Thursday night suppers at Ivy Bye’s camp.
Visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in St. James Catholic Church mausoleum. Nathan Folse, Jr, Boyd Laurent, Ryan Laurent, Nick Danos, Troy Zeringue, Jr., Colin Rougee, and Casey Crutchfield will serve as pallbearers and Patrick Zeringue as an honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. James ARC, 29150 Health Unit St., Vacherie, LA 70090.
