

Oscar Augusto Espinosa, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2015. He was a native of Santa Clara, Cuba and resident of Baton Rouge. Oscar was recognized and admired for his work and accomplishments in the sugar industry. He received an Honorary Doctorate degree in engineering from the University of Havana. Oscar also contributed to the WWII efforts when he was selected as an engineer to participate in a program helping operate a Seagram Distillery in Louisville, KY, producing alcohol for the war efforts. He loved his family and was a great friend. He was nicknamed by his grandchildren as “Yayo”. Oscar is survived by his daughter, Cris Fontenot and husband, Daniel; sons, Oscar G. Espinosa, Esteban Espinosa and wife, Miriam; Ronaldo Espinosa and wife, Melanie; Carlos Espinosa, Sr. and wife, Enelda; grandchildren, Esteban Espinosa, Jr., Charlotte Jordan, Ricardo Espinosa, Olga Perez Flora, Jennifer Espinosa, Andres Espinosa, Carlos Espinosa, Jr., David Perez, Jaclyn Espinosa, Lauren Heffern, and Isabel Espinosa; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Cristina Espinosa; parents, Oscar Buenaventura and Maria Antonieta De La Torre Espinosa; and one brother, Rolando Espinosa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans. Entombment to follow in All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Catholic Charities, www.catholiccharitiesusa.org. Arrangements by Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville.
