

After a lengthy illness Ray Joseph Oschwald, a loving husband, father & grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Thursday, November 21, 2013. He was 89 and a native and resident of Donaldsonville. He graduated from Ascension Catholic High School in 1942 and was inducted into the ACHS Alumni Hall of Distinction in 1994. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Naval 25th Construction Battalion (Seabees). He received a Doctorate of Pharmacy from Loyola University. He owned and operated Oschwald’s Pharmacy in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. He was a Jr. Vice Commander as well as Post Commander of local VFW 3766, a lifelong member of the American Legion Post #0098, Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #52 and the Exulted Ruler of the Donaldsonville ELKS Lodge. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Aline “Doll” Rodrigue Oschwald; two daughters and sons-in-law, Raye Beth “Babes” and Fred Logsdon, Aline “Tutie” and Mark Bennett; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles “Fritz” and Becky Oschwald, John “Doeboy” and Sue Oschwald, and Ehren “Wheeler” and Annette Oschwald; 22 grandchildren, Stephanie Oschwald Novak, Lauren Oschwald, Lisa Oschwald Shepler, Benjamin, Kristen and Joseph Oschwald, Ryan, William, and Michael Logsdon, Lindsey Oschwald Gautreau, Joshua and Matthew Oschwald, Ashley Oschwald Wargo, Ray Oschwald, II, Victoria, Josiah, Peter, Ester, David, Daniel, Samuel, and Asher Bennett; ten great grandchildren, Emma Shepler, Kayden, Kennedy, Brooklyn, and Braylee Oschwald, Emily and Aubrey Gautreau, David Wargo, Harlyn Logsdon, and Liam Logsdon; and one sister, Gloria “Prissy” Peltier.
Preceded in death by his son, Thomas “Tommy” Oschwald; parents, Charles and Annette Oschwald; two sisters, Ruby Rome and Ann Rose Folse; and one brother, Donald Oschwald.
The family would like to express their heart felt thanks to his dearly beloved PCA at home staff, Dr. Glen Schexnayder and his staff, Prevost Hospital and staff, St. Elizabeth Hospital and staff, Amedysis Home Health Staff, St. Joseph’s Hospice, Fr. Paul Yi, Fr. Andrew Merrick, the Sisters of the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel, and Mrs. Lena Rome his Eucharistic Minister for many years.
Pallbearers will be Fred Logsdon, Michael Logsdon, Ryan Logsdon, Ray Oschwald, II, Benjamin Oschwald, Joseph Oschwald, Joshua Oschwald and Matthew Oschwald.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and will resume on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 celebrated by Fr. Paul Yi and Fr. Andrew Merrick. Interment to follow in church cemetery.
