Sherry was born on October 26, 1949 in Klotzville, Louisiana. After graduating from Ascension Catholic High School, she went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Nicholls State University.
She was a well respected teacher in Assumption Parish for over forty years. She spent the bulk of her teaching career as an eighth grade math teacher at Belle Rose Middle School, where she earned top honors as a Teacher of the Year for the State of Louisiana. During her time as a school teacher, she was always committed to making a difference in the lives of her students, and worked tirelessly to make her school a better place.
Perhaps the greatest joy in Sherry’s life was spending time with her family. She was a dedicated mother to Kaye, Claire and Max and a beloved Gigi to her six grandkids. Together, they loved playing cards and sharing stories. She was by far their biggest cheerleader, and cherished every opportunity to celebrate them.
Sherry spent several of her last years caring for both her aging mother and brother. She leaves behind a legacy that will remember her as a caring mother, Gigi, sister, mother-in-law, aunt, neighbor and friend.
Sherry is survived by her three children, Kaye Lomasney (Brandon), Claire Blanchard (Mitch) and Max Morris (Julia); six grandchildren, Allison, Will and Brynne Lomasney and Sam, Mary Claire and Elise Blanchard; sister Elizabeth B. Parker; several nieces and nephews; and special friend of the family, Duncan Crawford.
She is preceded in death by her parents Rosa and Harris Blanchard, Sr. and brother Harris P. Blanchard, Jr.
A visitation will be held for Sherry on Monday, October 19, 2026 at 9 am at St. Jules Catholic Church with the Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11 am in Belle Rose. Entombment to follow in the church cemetery. Father Tomi Thomas will officiate.
