

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Therese Marquette Newchurch, 99, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones in her daughter’s home at 7:45PM on January 10, 2015. Therese was born on September 9, 1915, in Riche Town in Napoleonville, LA. Her parents were Charles T. Marquette and Agnes Simoneaux Marquette. She was a homemaker devoted to her family and enjoyed the company of her neighbors and friends in Paincourtville. As a woman of great faith, Therese had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary which she recited daily for all in need of prayer. She was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Church and member of the St. Elizabeth Choir and Ladies Altar Society. She was also active for many years in the St. Elizabeth Mother’s Club. Appreciating the gift of her long and beautiful life, are her two daughters and one son-in-law, Agnes Newchurch Pizzolato and husband Jimmie, and Kathleen Newchurch Mika of Donaldsonville; one son and daughter-in-law, Anatole “Toddy”Newchurch, Jr. and wife Gail of Paincourtville; two sisters in law, Lumina Newchurch and Marguerite Aucoin of Baton Rouge. She had six grandchildren: Michelle Pizzolato Blanchard and husband Brad of Baton Rouge; Brad Pizzolato and wife Sandy of Donaldsonville; Becky Molaison McCullough and husband Mark, and Kalli Mika of Dallas; Jennifer Newchurch Templet and husband Danny of Pierre Part; and Elizabeth Newchurch Landry and husband Travis of Paincourtville. Her eleven great-grandchildren include Katie, Sarah, and Molly Pizzolato of Donaldsonville; Jacob and Kale Blanchard of Baton Rouge; Brendan Smeltzer of Dallas; Noah and Joshua Templet of Pierre Part; Brennan Pennison, Adrienne Blanchard, and Carson Landry of Paincourtville. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Anatole H.”Gote” Newchurch, Sr., her parents, and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Charles and Lillian Gregoire Marquette, Philip and Doycie LeBlanc Marquette, and Robert Paul Marquette. Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Church on Friday, January 16, from 9:00 to 11:00AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial conducted by Fr. Paul Yi and Fr. Andrew Merrick; burial to follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmie Pizzolato, Brad Pizzolato, D. F. Sims, Jr., Charles Marquette, Jr., Danny Templet, and Elliot Landry. Honorary pallbearer will be Brad Blanchard.The family wishes to thank her doctors Janet Landry Walker, Glenn Schexnayder, and Andrew Smith, as well as special caretakers and friends who lovingly helped with Mother, Mrs. Gertrude Simoneaux, Mrs. Mary Landry, Mrs. Evelyn Pizzolato, Mrs. Mary Thibodaux, Mrs. Celeste Spano, Mrs. Lisa Dupierre, Ms. Myra Caruso, and special cousins Elliot and Lelia Landry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Church, St. Elizabeth School, Ascension Catholic School, or a charity of your choice.
