Wayne met the love of his life, Letha, in high school. What began as a young romance quickly grew into a deep and steady love. They married and built a beautiful life together, raising two children who were the center of their world. Wayne and Letha were true lovebirds who supported one another through every season of life. Their love remained unwavering, and he cherished her with his whole heart until his very last breath.
Wayne worked as a longshoreman on the river for over 20 years. He’s never tired of retelling the stories and memories he made along the way. After his time on the river, he turned his passion into woodworking. He spent countless hours in his shop crafting furniture, special pieces for his family, and even custom chicken coops for Letha’s chickens. He also kept a garden year round and found real joy in growing, eating, and sharing what he grew with the people he loved.
His family was everything and he loved spending time with them. He especially enjoyed fishing with them and sharing stories about everything he caught…and everything that got away. Some of his favorite times were spent on the porch, simply talking and swinging with the people he loved most.
He loved his children beyond measure, but his heart completely melted the day he became PawPaw Whop. His grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he would do anything for them—building a backyard treehouse, hanging a swing in the backyard, sneaking them Dr. Pepper when they were little, and so many other adventures.
Wayne is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Letha Plaisance Pfister; his daughter, Dori Maddry (Mark); and his cherished grandchildren, Shaylen Pfister, MacKenzie Maddry, and Logan Maddry. He also held a special place in his heart for LeRae’ Daigle.
He is further survived by his siblings: Arlene Peltier (Ricky), Vernon Pfister (Jan), Sandra Pfister, Frankie Pfister, Lisa Graves, and Diane Moran (Larry). Wayne was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom he loved and enjoyed throughout his life. He also leaves behind his best friend, Snoozer, the dog he didn’t want but loved tremendously.
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved son, Shane Michael Pfister; his parents, Vernon and Rosie Pfister; and his brother, David “Spec” Pfister. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Seth.
Wayne will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved him.
