Donald William Hinsberger, 93, passed away surrounded by family, at his home in Dana Point, California on November 2nd, 2021.
A lifelong Californian, Don was born July 14th 1928 to Leo Andrew Hinsberger and Adeline (Gaul) Hinsberger. He graduated Mount Carmel High School in Los Angeles in 1946 and served a tour of duty in Korea (attaining the rank of Sergeant) before marrying his beloved Verna April 23rd, 1955, to whom he was married 58 years until her passing in 2013. Don worked 38 years for Los Angeles County as a road surveyor and was highly regarded for his encyclopedic knowledge of Los Angeles County roads. The Hinsberger’s made their home and raised their family in Downey before retiring to Dana Point. He was a devout Catholic and attended St. Raymond in Downey and St. Edward the Confessor in Dana Point. Don loved playing cards, doing magic tricks, telling jokes, eating out, watching football, his little dog Sadie and being with his family and friends.
Don was predeceased by his wife Verna (Oswald), three brothers, Vincent, John and Paul, and three children, Diane Eileen, Mary Lisa and James Andrew. He is survived by a brother Harold, and two sisters, Marianne Horan and Sister Eileen Hinsberger. Three children, Donald Alan (Cindy) Hinsberger, daughter Linda Marie Alexander (Paul Brindley), and daughter Laura Ann (David) McWater. Two grandchildren Stephanie Lynn (Anthony) Garrido, and Melanie Marie (Kevin) O’Leary, and five great grandchildren, Vincent Anthony Garrido, Jolene Marie Garrido, Robert Douglas O’Leary, William Alan O’Leary and Michael Christopher O’Leary.
Funeral mass will be held at St Raymond Catholic Church on Saturday, November 13th at 2pm. Flowers can be delivered to the church, 12348 Paramount Blvd, Downey, CA 90242 one hour prior to the service.
