

Florence Marguerite Featherston was born to William Paul and Seraphine Featherston on January 3, 1923 in Dubuque, Iowa. Florence's nickname growing up was Babe. Babe grew up with her older sister Catherine whom she was very close . After Babe's parents divorced she and her sister and Mother moved to Chicago. Her father remarried to Alice and soon welcomed Bill and Jim, her brothers. Growing up Babe spent a year on her grandparent's farm in Iowa, she always said how much she loved being around all of her Aunts, Uncles & Cousins. Babe studied hard and graduated from high school 6 months before the rest of her class. After High School she went to work at a bank and for a short time in a candy factory with her cousin. While visiting the Chicago Museum during WWII babe met a handsome sailor named Ray Robinson on the steps of the museum. After Ray returned to the war they wrote many letters back and forth. In November of 1944 while Ray was on leave in Chicago he proposed to Babe. Babe and Ray were married in the Catholic church in Salisbury, Maryland on February 10, 1945. When the war was over Babe and Ray settled in Chicago where their first child, Sally Lois was born in 1946. They moved just a few more times after that. First to Washington where their first son, John William was born in 1948. Then they moved back to Rockford, Illinois to be closer to Babe's sister Catherine and had their second son Charles Frank in 1953. Ray did not like the cold winters in Illinois and in 1955 they headed west for a home with warmer weather in sunny California. In 1956 Ray and Babe bought their home in Lakewood, California. In 1958 they had their last child, Rita Marie. After their move to California they never moved again. Babe was so happy when her mother decided to move to California in 1968. Florence went to work for Harvey Aluminum as a keypunch operator and payroll processor for 15 years and retired in 1980 to be a stay at home Grandmother and help raise her Grandchildren. After retirement Ray and Florence loved spending time together. They enjoyed Rock hounding with the Bellflower Gem and Mineral Society and traveling in their motor home with their friends and family to interesting new sites. Their favorite trips were to Quartzite, AZ. In May of 1990 Florence lost the love of her life in a hiking accident. After the loss of Ray Florence spent her time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who kept her very busy. She was involved with the Catholic Daughter's at St. Bernard's Church. She helped to feed homeless in the community and was active in the Lakewood Senior Center. A new motor home took Florence on many new adventures with her family across country, she loved to travel. For Florence's 90th Birthday her daughter and Grandchildren took her to the Happiest place on earth, Disneyland. She loved the attention from everyone wishing her a Happy Birthday and was so happy to be there. Florence loved life and lived it for her family. She remained in her same home for 59 years. She leaves four children. Sally, John, Chuck, and Rita. Her daughter in law, Josie. Her brother Bill and sister in law Elaine. Eight Grandchildren, Lisa, Charles, Christina, Holly, Michael, Veronica, Brittany & Sara. Six Great Grandchildren. As well as countless Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
