Martin Verhoeven was born Martin Govert Verhoeven. He entered Ellis Island at the age of 2 from The Netherlands. When going through the gate he would not speak. No one with any disabilities was allowed in the U.S. So his father pinched him and he said, "Ouch!" and they let them enter. They were sponsored by relatives in Minn. Then moved to Hanford where his father had a gas station. They later moved to Bellflower. He met his wife June on a blind date and it was true love for just shy of 70 years. He had 1 beloved son and 3 beloved and doting daughters. He was in the Auto Parts business most of his life and retired at the age of 59. He dearly loved his family and in law children and grandchildren. He was a warm and honest man, very good in business although he only had an 8th grade education. He loved his brothers and went to coffee with them for many years after he retired. He passed away on March 28 at age 92. He is preceded in death by his parents Arie & Marie Verhoeven and 3 brothers. He is survived by a brother, sister and his wife June, son Gilbert (Diana), daughters Gail Visser (Jess), Cheryl Carrilo (Don), Colleen Aase (Randy). He has 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was a loving husband and a precious father and we will miss him greatly but know he is in the arms of Jesus. Visitation will be at Whites Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 31 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services are at Rosewood Church in Bellflower on Thursday, April 1 at 11:00 AM. Arrangements under the direction of Whites Funeral Home, Bellflower, CA.
