Born April 20, 1926 in the little town of Jesus Maria, Jalisco, Mexico. Came to the U.S. when he was a year old with his parents, Faustino and Librada Zarate and settled in the little town of Azusa, CA. He was a long time resident of both Azusa and South Gate, CA. In 1944, he served as a Sargent in the US. Army during WWII, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Division. He worked as a dispatcher with the U.S Forest Service out of Arcadia and retired after 36 years. He then continued to dispatch for the Monrovia Fire Department for another 15 years. Then in his 80’s, he worked with his wife running their Hair Salon (Quik Cuts) in the city of Norwalk, up till he was 92.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ofelia Zarate; His daughters, Linda Zarate, Stella Zarate, Rosanne Escobedo, Diane Mendoza, Michele Zarate, Maricela Rodriguez, Loraine Carranco and Sara Ferrer.
Sister, Lupe Torres; Brother, Nacho Zarate; and preceded in death by his Brother, Chicho Zarate.
31 Grandchildren, 33 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews and family members.
