

The second of three children, Shirley Jean Butler was born on May 17, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio to John Joseph and Adeline Clarissa Light. Shirley graduated from Macedonia High School in Cleveland where she grew up.
Later Shirley moved to Oklahoma with her mother, who at the time has a small ranch. There she met and later married Arthur Lee Butler. She gave birth to her first child, Linda on July 12, 1949 there in Oklahoma. Shirley and Arthur moved to Sacramento, California where they lived in the small suburb-Rio Linda. That is where she gave birth to Cindy, born October 02, 1953 and then to Rick Allen born July 27, 1966. Shortly after Rick’s birth, Shirley and Arthur moved to San Pedro in Southern California.
While things were not’t going well Shirley and Arthur, she went to work as a demonstrator of different products in Department stores. She also began typing at night for a company called Perma Plaque. In 1969 Shirley went to work for the City of Los Angeles as a Clerk Typist, having worked in many departments within the city. After 28 years of service and making many friends, she retired from the City of Los Angeles.
During her life she had enjoyed her grandchildren, square dancing, traveling, doing various crafts and getting outside to enjoy nature. Trips to Hawaii and Alaska, with her boyfriend Bill Hurtado were among many of the states she had visited. Throughout Shirley’s life she enjoyed many wonderful times with her Grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her favorite pastimes was going to watch her grandchildren play baseball and softball. She thoroughly enjoyed going to the theater to watch plays, discussing crafts and baking with her daughter-in-law Brandy. On occasion she would attend barbecues at Linda’s house that were cooked by Gabriel.
Shirley Jean Butler was survived by her 3 children-Linda, Cindy and Rick, 6 Grandchildren, and 9 Great-grandchildren. She was strong in Character, extremely independent and really loved all that were around her. Sadly on May 13, 2012 she passed away and moved onto a better life. She will be greatly missed!!!!!
