He will be missed by Joanne, his wife for 72 years, his children, John and Francina, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his many friends. Ray, pictured here in uniform from his 5 years in the RAF during the war, will be remembered as a founding member of Culture of Peace Hamilton and for his lifelong efforts to promote peace locally and between nations. His ideas about humanity’s struggle to end warfare are contained in a small book he wrote toward the end of his life entitled: Towards Less Adversarial Cultures. Both the YMCA and the city of Hamilton awarded him a peace medal, and he established a UN Culture of Peace Fund with the Hamilton Community Foundation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will take place at the Quaker Meeting House on Saturday, December 21 at 2 pm, 7 Butty Place, Hamilton. No flowers please.
Donations to United Nations Culture of Peace Fund at the Hamilton Community Foundation would be much appreciated.
