

Passed away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge, Dundas on February 13, 2014 in her 87th year after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Predeceased by her husband Gordon Leslie Matthews. Survived by her children Mary Matthews, Daniel (Beryl) Matthews, Thomas Matthews, and Melanie (Gordon) Rayner, as well as 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also survived by her brothers John (Ann), and Dan Pegg. Elizabeth, also known as “Betty” or “Peg”, enjoyed a long career as a registered nurse and also ran a successful antique business in Dundas for 30 years. Elizabeth was actively involved in many community groups, organizations, and clubs, and served two terms on the Wentworth County Board of Education. She was also an active volunteer, charity worker, and received the Queen’s Jubilee Award for her service to the Red Cross Society. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Maple Lane at Wentworth Lodge for all of their care and compassion. Friends may call at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME “Swackhamer Chapel”, 195 King Street West, Dundas on Tuesday, February 18th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 19th at 11am. Interment at Bethel Cemetery, Kilbride, ON.
