Our father passed away peacefully on February 11, 2011 at the age of 94 with his loving wife and ever present companion of 62 years, Corinne “Corky” , at his side. Alan led a wonderful full life leaving it with no regrets. Early in his career he served as a Major in the Canadian army medical corps in WWII. Some of his many subsequent accomplishments and contributions include his career as a superb surgeon and mentor, Chief of Surgery and of Staff at St. Joseph's Hospital Hamilton and President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. We are sad for our loss but celebrate his life. We are all so thankful for the many years of parenting, mentoring, loving and fun we have had with him. The world is a better place for his visit. Holding many, many beautiful memories are Corky, his seven children and their spouses: Wendy and Jim Boles (Ancaster), Rob and Gail Lane (Newcastle), Rick and Dora Lane (Burlington), Peter and Ingrid Lane (Mississauga), Carolyn Lane and Garth Wanamaker (Calgary), Jim Lane and Georgina Carson (Toronto) and David Lane and Lauren Fraser (Squamish B.C.), his siblings Cam Lane (Ottawa), Win Lane (Sault Ste. Marie) and Alison Pentland (Ancaster). Loving grandfather to Jillian, Amy, Allison, and Spencer Boles, Andrea, Tommy, Jon, Heather, Hillary, Taylor, and Myles Lane, Devin and Mason Wanamaker, and Rob and Scott Lane and joyfully a recent great-grandfather to Sam. Those who knew our husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend know of his accomplishments and his love of travel, skiing, tennis and bridge and a particular affection for Africa. His passing will be honoured with a memorial service at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME, 195 King St. W, Dundas, on Tuesday February 15 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, his remembrance would be most meaningful and appreciated by way of donation to Canadian Crossroads International or MSF (Medicins sans Frontieres).
