Passed away peacefully on January 18, 2011 in his 86th year at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton. George was predeceased by his son David many years ago, then the apple of his eye, his daughter Patti and his beloved wife Marion. He is survived by his true and steadfast wife of life’s latter years Doris, his son Mark (Lyne), his grandchildren Stephanie and David Welsh and his stepchildren Judith Hannah and John Nicholson. George was a life-long educator and the first and longest serving Principal of Georges Vanier Secondary School in North York. He was a proud co-author of a highly acclaimed “Methods of Science” series of science textbooks for grades 7-10, touching the lives of countless students over the years. George was an athlete, enjoying playing and watching basketball, skiing with his family and was a diehard Hamilton Tiger Cats fan (even though he held Argonaut season tickets for many years). As a youth George achieved Championship status in track and field athletics. George also enjoyed many active years at Forest Grove United Church in North York. George Erwin was a well-rounded man. He was academically gifted, fair-minded, honest, devoted, a loving father and partner. His sage advice, clear-minded thoughts and ideas and ability to “get to the heart of the matter” will be truly missed. His was a life well lived.
