Mrs. Irene Margaret Gotham, passed away peacefully March 8th, Int’l Women’s Day, at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
From earliest childhood, Irene dreamed of flying like a bird; She loved sunny, exotic climes, and her career in the Foreign Service saw her work in Guyana and Barbados among several other of our embassies and High Consulates abroad. Irene was widowed midway through her life when her husband, Ivor Thomas Gotham, died in 1980. She also survived her eldest son, Nicholas Ivor, an accomplished musician composer, who died at the height of his powers in 2015. Irene never let these setbacks get the best of her; She remained a great friend to many, a loving mother and grandmother, and a cheerfully formidable Scrabble opponent to the end.
