Irene was my absolute hero . She always had a twinkle in her eye and a soft spot in her heart for the animals that just happened to find a way to her home.
I had the honour and privilege of knowing Irene while at CWH. She will be sorely missed, as her passion and dedication to the Lancaster was relentless. When asked about her service as a WD she would modestly say that she just had a job to do.
Irene and George lived an amazing love story that lasted over the many years that they were together.
To the Sobering Family I send my sincere condolences to you.

As past president of RCL Br 36 I met with Irene many times and was impressed with her dedication to veterans and the Lancaster Project.
We have lost a little piece of history.
THEY SHALL NOT BE FORGOT.

I only met Irene recently when I started working at CWH, but I quickly grew to know and love the trio of ladies who came in to volunteer regularly. Irene was strong and independent, and I learned how amazing she was in life, from her military service to her volunteer service. She will be sorely missed around the museum.
My deepest sympathies.

Our deepest condolences on the passing of Irene. I have lots of fond memories of camps and parties. Irene and George were friends of my parents and I grew up knowing Irene from a very young age. May the memories live in your heart forever
