Peacefully at home in Dundas, it is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David on October 23rd. David was the beloved and cherished husband and best friend to his wife Cathy. Deeply loved by his daughters Anne Pengelly-Hill, Jeanne Pengelly, son Edward, and stepsons David and Scott Wallace and their wives Christine and Susan, and grandchildren Paul David and Ashlynn Hill, Matthew and Sarah Wallace, Sophia and Sam Wallace, and Andrew, Amanda, Mariah, Matthew and Nicholas Helt. David graduated from the University of Toronto in Electrical Engineering in 1956 and from McGill University Montreal in 1969 with a PhD in Physiology. He came to McMaster Medical Centre in 1971 as Associate Professor, Department of Medicine. In 1972 he became a member of the Department of Engineering Physics and in 1997 Professor Emeritus, Department of Engineering. As a scientist, over the years David conducted many research projects on air quality and health issues. These interests led him to be a recipient of several awards, the most recent being The Green Toronto Award in 2007. In addition to his family, David had many loves and interests. Their summer home on Soyers Lake, the many friendships that developed, and his interest in environmental issues led him to become involved in the Soyers Lake Ratepayers Association in Haliburton. Summer was a time he looked forward to as it allowed him to fly his radio-controlled airplanes over the lake. Music was also an important part of his life, especially being a member of the Choir at St. Paul’s United Church in Dundas. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 29 Park Street West, Dundas, Ontario on Thursday November 1st, at 1:30pm. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Organ Reserve Fund at St. Paul’s United Church, Dundas or to a charity of your choice. On-line tributes may be made at www.marlattfhdundas.com.
