Marilyn Boock Schmidt was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised in small town Spencer, Wisconsin by loving, kind parents Marian and Norbert Boock, surrounded by grandparents, two younger brothers Dave and Jerry, by multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins. Graduating from Concordia University, Chicago, Illinois with degrees in Elementary Education and Literature she obtained certification and taught in Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, and Missouri.
Hitching her wagon to her star, Frederick Schmidt, she followed him in his career as a Lutheran Clergyman, taking them to Edmonton, Alberta where sons Jonathan and Michael were born, to Vancouver, BC, to Mississauga, Ontario, to Hamilton, Ontario and even time spent in rural Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Marilyn again obtained certification and taught in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario, retiring in 1999.
Her love of teaching was surpassed only by her love of retirement: ice skating, hiking, cross country skiing, camping, Monday Riders Cycling group, McMaster Sr. Fitness, St. James Anglican Body and Soul, travelling, and exploring 28 countries and numerous states and provinces, watching her 3 grandchildren grow, learn, and spread their wings.
She is remembered by her loving husband of 59 years and best friend, Fred Schmidt, by her dear sons Jonathan and Michael who continued to make her proud, by their extra special wives, Alice Schuda and Teajai Schmidt who are the loving mothers of her three delightful, precious grandchildren Annika, Martin, and Maya and by numerous relatives and friends in Europe and North America.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Lutheran World Relief or a Cancer fund.
