Surrounded by loved ones, Uwe Walter Schaub died in Hamilton, Ontario on December 18, 2021, at age 86. Uwe had the great fortune to enjoy two wonderful marriages: first to Halley Ann McBain (deceased, 2007), and later to Anne Townsend.
Uwe was a Queen’s mechanical engineering graduate, with a Master’s from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in gas dynamics from Carleton University. He had a fulfilling and successful career as a senior research scientist at the National Research Council in Ottawa. Uwe was a dedicated family man who loved working on projects around the house. In his leisure time, he restored English sports cars, made remarkable toys for the children in his life, and invented all manner of ingenious tools.
Uwe will be missed by his wife Anne, her children Kirkby, Kimberley, Trevor, Deborah, and their families. Uwe is survived by his three children: Bennett, spouse Soonki and their two children, Halley and Teddy; Halley and spouse Miranda Lim are parents to Uwe’s great-grandchild, Vanessa; Uwe’s daughter Janine Schaub, her partner Thomas Adams, their children Eloise Adams, Callen Schaub, and Kayla Adams; and Uwe’s youngest son Hartley, his partner Renn Scott and their son Max. Uwe will also be missed by his German relatives, Heike and Bernd Dietl, Jens Lühr, and their families. He will also be missed by his lifelong friends Dick and Heather Farmery.
The families would like to thank the staff of Highgate Residence of Ancaster for taking such excellent care of Uwe while his health declined due to Parkinson’s disease and cancer.
