
Passed away on September 15th at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas, Ontario in his 97th year. He will be missed by his son, Jacek. Survived by family in the United States and Poland. Born 3rd of July,1919 in Warsaw Poland, son of Ludwik Kowalski and Natalja Strzelecka. Graduated from the School of Administration and Trade in Warsaw as well as the Chopin Conservatory of Music in 1939. Joined the Polish army under Allied command in Paris, France in November 1939, and completed officer training in Dundee, Scotland with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1941. Saw action during WWII in Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, and Italy. Married Maria Anna Kielczewska July 7th, 1946 in Marzocca di Senigallia, Italy. Underwent demobilization and re-settlement in England during 1947-1948. After the birth of his only son, Jacek, in May 1947, emigrated with his wife and child to Canada in 1948. Employed for 31 years by the Steel Company of Canada, Hamilton Ontario, in the Production Planning Department. Was a founding member of the Chedoke Numismatic Society. Named Honorary Curator of the McMaster University Coin Collections in 1980. Was instrumental in the establishment of the Coin Room at the McMaster University Museum of Art. Recognized by the University for contributions to the academic curriculum through the study of ancient coins. Taught and tutored in the Classics, Religion, and History departments of the University until 1992. Resided in Hamilton since 1954. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, 600 Spring Gardens Rd, Burlington, on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10 a.m. On-line condolences may be made at www.marlattfhdundas.com
