At the age of 8, in April 1952, she climbed on a boat with her family and crossed the ocean to Canada, to the Port Dover area, and later to Branchton in 1954 where she lived and grew up on the Ross farm.
She met our Dad John, accepted a date and apparently he stood her up. She wouldn’t speak to him or give him a second chance for a date. But because she was a special girl, he perservered, and finally Uncle Garry told her she might as well go out with him because he wasn’t going to give up...
Meanwhile, she graduated from Galt Collegiate Institute, worked for a short time and on August 10, 1963, Mom and Dad married. They lived in an apartment on Duke Street in Hamilton for a short time, then moved to their first house on Carey Street in Waterdown.
Four children were born, Linda, Michael, Sharon and Duane and in 1974 they built the house and moved to Ofield Road. We lived there while Mom helped Dad run the business until they retired to Newcombe Road in Dundas in 2003.
So while we gathered together this past week we were reminded of what a loving wife, Mom, Grandma, sister and friend she was.
She was forever doing her cross stitch cards, famous for her baby capes and chocolate chip cookies.
Mom enjoyed playing cards with their friends, backgammon with Dad at the beach with the group on Tuesdays, garage saling, and collecting bargains!
Mom was a devoted and faithful member of the Ancaster Christian Reformed Church for many years.
Finally her greatest passion, the grandkids. She adored every one of them and each one had a special place in her heart. She was anxiously awaiting their trip in March to Australia to meet the newest grandbabies.
Forever in our hearts
