After a brave and courageous battle with cancer, and with his family by his side, Bill passed away peacefully on June 6, 2014, in his 87th year. Loving husband and a best friend to the late Joan (nee McCulloch).
Dear and cherished father to Doug (Marsha) of Israel, Tim of Hamilton, Joe (Laurie) of Dundas, Joan (Gary) of Simcoe, Tracy of Ancaster, Mike (Caroline) of Dundas.
Adored grandfather and great-grandfather to Terryn (Jordan, Graydon), Bryon (Nicole, Ellison), Mike, Joe (Christine), Amanda, Will, Rachel, Mor, Asaf, Luke, Samantha, Anita (Kevin), Dan (Denise).
Dearly beloved brother of Margaret (late Bill) Davidson of Dundas.
A very special friend of the Johnson and Stanbridge families.
Bill was retired from the Hamilton Region Water Works and had previously worked many years at the Dundas Public Utilities and Bordens Dairy in Hamilton.
He served his adored valley town as a member of the Dundas Community Council. He had a love for nature, wildlife, the outdoors and the Dundas Valley and had been honoured for his work and devotion by the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority, Environment Hamilton, and the Bruce Trail. He will be missed by his many friends at the Dundas Valley Tree Keepers for his immense knowledge, passion and enthusiasm.
Bill volunteered for many years at the Hamilton Health Services and was an avid and popular figure at the Ottawa Street Y Heartbeat Club and the Dundas McDonalds Breakfast Club.
Bill was a long time respected breeder of Pembroke Welsh Corgis and a life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Association of Canada, The Welsh Corgi League (UK), and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America.
Cremation, as per Bill’s wishes, has taken place. A private family service will follow.
A public celebration of Bill’s life will take place on Saturday, June 21st from 1 to 5 pm at the Pirie House, Dundas Museum, 139 Park St. West.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Susan Ghert and the Emmanuel House Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Emmanuel House would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
