William Arthur Kennedy

August 22, 1927June 6, 2014

After a brave and courageous battle with cancer, and with his family by his side, Bill passed away peacefully on June 6, 2014, in his 87th year. Loving husband and a best friend to the late Joan (nee McCulloch). Dear and cherished father to Doug (Marsha) of Israel, Tim of Hamilton, Joe (Laurie) of Dundas, Joan (Gary) of Simcoe, Tracy of Ancaster, Mike (Caroline) of Dundas. Adored grandfather and great-grandfather to Terryn (Jordan, Graydon), Bryon (Nicole, Ellison), Mike, Joe (Christine), Amanda, Will, Rachel, Mor, Asaf, Luke, Samantha, Anita (Kevin), Dan (Denise). Dearly beloved brother of Margaret (late Bill) Davidson of Dundas. A very special friend of the Johnson and Stanbridge families. Bill was retired from the Hamilton Region Water Works and had previously worked many years at the Dundas Public Utilities and Bordens Dairy in Hamilton. He served his adored valley town as a member of the Dundas Community Council. He had a love for nature, wildlife, the outdoors and the Dundas Valley and had been honoured for his work and devotion by the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority, Environment Hamilton, and the Bruce Trail. He will be missed by his many friends at the Dundas Valley Tree Keepers for his immense knowledge, passion and enthusiasm. Bill volunteered for many years at the Hamilton Health Services and was an avid and popular figure at the Ottawa Street Y Heartbeat Club and the Dundas McDonalds Breakfast Club. Bill was a long time respected breeder of Pembroke Welsh Corgis and a life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Association of Canada, The Welsh Corgi League (UK), and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America. Cremation, as per Bill’s wishes, has taken place. A private family service will follow. A public celebration of Bill’s life will take place on Saturday, June 21st from 1 to 5 pm at the Pirie House, Dundas Museum, 139 Park St. West. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Susan Ghert and the Emmanuel House Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Emmanuel House would be sincerely appreciated by the family. I visited the Kennedy Dairy farm twice after becoming friends with his son Doug. I was from Elwood Indiana USA. Doug's father was welcoming to the bunch of wild haired boys from America. I found this article while doing a search on Doug. Have not seen him since 1971 in Terre Haute, Indiana. John Hook

My condolences on your loss. Bill and Joan entrusted our family with my first beloved Corgi. Bill often supported me at ringside when I was a junior handler. He will be deeply missed.

Every time I look to the east into the field I think about our great neighbour Bill and how much he taught us about country life. He was full of stories but he was a patient and supportive listener too. His passion for the causes he believed in - Mother Earth, trees, cardiac rehad, walking, the Bruce Trail... - is an inspiration to our family. We will miss him a lot.

Please accept my condolences on your loss. I first met your Dad at Borden's when I helped my Father deliver milk. Later we served together on the Hamilton Conservation Authority. Your Dad was well-respected and a wealth of knowledge on so many subjects. May he rest in peace.

I can still see Bill sitting on a stability ball in our gym here at the YWCA. He came into our program in the late 90s and rarely missed a class. Bill worked hard yet always kept a conversation going. It was so nice to have his daughter Joan and son Mike bring Bill back in for a visit and then go for lunch with his freinds from the Heart Beat program. He was a huge part of the group and we will truly miss him. Deborah Hannah YWCA Hamilton

On behalf of the staff at Settlers Supplies in Sheffield we will, in all sincerity, miss visiting with Bill on his regular trips for pet food at our store.
We always covered many topics of discussion over the past number of years. Our deepest sympathy to the family in the loss of a truly great man.

I really enjoyed his enthusiasm for nature especially trees. I will miss him visiting at the hospital when he did his volunteer work. Everyone asked me who that man was looking for me and we had a laugh over that. Dundas has lost a great citizen.
