Arline (ferns) Henry

Arline (Ferns) Henry, 91, of Sunrise Adult Community in West Hartford, loving wife of the late Paul E. Henry, Sr., peacefully passed away on Wednesday (November 1, 2006) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born in Woodhaven, Long Island, NY, on June 7, 1915 she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna Ferns. She was a graduate of Brooklyn College in New York where she obtained her degree in teaching. Arline started her professional career as a schoolteacher at a private school in Rye, NY and later taught at public schools in Middletown, NY and Red Hook, NY. Arline was also a long-time member of the Daughters of the Nile in Syracuse, NY. As a minister's wife, Arline was very active at the Lutheran churches where her husband was the pastor, especially the choirs where she enjoyed singing. As active as Arline was she found time to be a caring mother to her son and a special grandmother to her grandchildren. Mrs. Henry is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Paul E. Henry, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn of East Hartford; three adored grandchildren, Susan LeBoeuf and her husband, Steven of Rochdale, MA, Thomas Henry and his wife, Ellen of Wilbraham, MA, Carol Fitzgerald and her husband, Brad of Ashby, MA; nine dear great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Scott, Nicholas, Joshua, Jessica, Alex, Ella, Jake, and Madison; two nephews, David Still in Canada, William Still in Florida; and many friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate Arline's life will be on Wednesday November 8th at 5:30 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Syracuse, NY. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Arline's name may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 1120 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT, 06118.
