
Arthur Turner Hope, 89, of East Hartford, loving husband of the late Lorraine (Gangloff) Hope, left this life for a well-earned rest on Thursday (January 26, 2006) with his loving and caring family by his side at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Merrick, Long Island, NY, he had resided in East Hartford since 1940. Art was a hard working individual who was a machinist at Chandler Evans Mfg. Co., West Hartford and worked at Cox's Mobil Station, Main Street, East Hartford where he drove one of their school buses for the children in the East Hartford area. He also worked for Schwartz Parking in Hartford where he retired at the age of 78. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #3901, East Hartford and of the Orient Lodge #62 A.F. & A.M., East Hartford. Art was meticulous about his home and outside yard, while always making improvements to his home and his family's homes by painting. When Art did have some free time, he would enjoy playing Bingo, especially on Wednesday evenings at Blessed Sacrament Church, East Hartford. However, Art was known for his sense of humor that he kept right up to his death. Art loved spending time with his children and their families and he will be deeply and greatly missed by all who knew him. Besides his beloved wife, Art was predeceased by a son, Brett F. Hope of Hebron; a daughter, Elizabeth L. Hope of East Hartford; three grandsons, Stephen Castagna, Joseph Castagna, and Brett F. Hope, Jr. Art is survived by his caring and devoted daughter and son-in-law, Christine M. and Vincent Castagna of East Hartford; six beloved sons, Brian M. Hope and his wife, Joyce, of East Hartford, Michael R. Hope of East Hartford, Mark R. Hope and his wife, Patricia, of East Hartford, Stephen J. Hope of East Hartford, Robert A. Hope of East Hartford, Matthew M. Hope and his wife, Mary, of Bristol, RI; a special daughter-in-law, Linda (Ahl) Hope of Hebron; a brother, Russell Hope and his wife, Kathleen, of Highland Lake, NY; nineteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Monday (January 30th) from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford at a time to be announced. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Sunday (January 29th) from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Art's memory may be made to St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center-Palliative Care Unit, 114 Woodland Street, Hartford, 06105.
